Capricho Catalán, Op. 165 nº5 by I.Albéniz
The general texture of this wonderful short piece has in its original form a quite high pitch (let’s not forget that guitar makes music one octave lower), likely an imitation of a typical Catalan folk orchestra (with typical high woodwind instruments).
I found that the tonality of G major better conveys this atmosphere. Over more, the open G-tuning with the dominant in the bass string enlarges the usable pitch of the instrument significantly, avoiding therefore, uncomfortable changes of octave in the bass-melody and cuts on some of the important notes.
Please, don’t forget that the original tempo indication is Allegretto, this piece is absolutely not to perform slow!
